So the game Office After Hours is more of a short horror game about the feverish dreams of being trapped at work way too long. The running time for the game is about two hours at most. It captures this bizarre, fresh, creepy yet sitting on funny vibe. You are just a poor soul being kept at work hours too late, and your stupid boss decides to slap you with more overtime. Suddenly, the office turns into an eerie scene from a horror film. The lights go people-looooow weird; things move, are they? And strange noises echo, not because the AC just circumvented the mundane. I mean, let alone the pet cat; it might appear all shady, which is funny and creepy at the same time.
This game is not only about avoiding the haunting atmosphere, but also spending time gathering hints, collecting hidden story items, and unlocking new areas in an attempt to escape this corporate nightmare. There are about thirty aberrations that are woven into the fabric of the main story, and another dozen or so random glitches to keep things interesting. And, of course, coffee is strewn all over the place because what is an all-nighter without it?
I played through it a few nights ago and sucked right in. My favorite part was coming across some of those creepy memos that point to what might be messing with the office; it’s like being a detective lost in a cubicle maze. The game sports a relaxed, yet freaky, ambience that knows it doesn’t need to push hard to be terrifying, but somehow still gets under your skin.
